Electric vs manual choke

 · Manual choke - gives best results, but requires operator intervention. Original hot air choke - gives excellent results, keeps vehicle original, and is worth more if vehicle is sold. Electric choke (on a vehicle this old with automatic) - gives unacceptable results! One thing to keep in mind is the Edelbrock manual choke versions usually are setup more for performance than the electric choke versions of the same size. Depending on your application and which choke setup you prefer, you'll probably need the tuning kit to play with rods/jets/springs to get it dialed in. Advantage of electric (automatic) choke is no operator input required. Disadvantage is they can malfuction. Advantage of manual choke is cheap, simple, operator adjustable. You can take out the choke just as soon as driveability permits and save gas and pollution. Disadvantage of manual choke is that it requires just a little bit of knowledge and attention on the driver's part which is more than most people can or would like to manage. PM. There is a zero performance gain in a manual choke carb vs an electric choke carb. Once the engine is at operating temp, the chokes should be wide open. If you don’t mind the cable running through the fire wall, that’s fine for you. I wouldn’t drill a hole for it though.
